Visions Through the Eyes of Day One

January 1st, according to most calendar systems, marks the first day of a new time period, specifically for us, it marks the beginning of 2024. A day that signifies a new beginning whether recognized or not! If you’re reading this, congratulations because we have made it this far.

Life is uniquely structured in many ways based on seasons and periods. With the beginning of the new year 2024, like many we enjoy visioning and planning the new goals that we intend to seek in our lives. I believe that times like these are moments where many encourage and uplift one another in optimism towards the achievement of their visions. That child-like sense of curiosity and hopefulness is a feeling that should be appreciated as it shows our human nature with no filter or worry of what others think.

That is a thought that has resonated in my mind quite often. In a country where information is accessible within seconds by way of technology, AI and many other artificial enhancements that have been created, it sometimes can feel like our drive to seek information or anything in life has been dulled. Could it be a reflection of laziness? Or maybe because we’ve been trained to have everything at our fingertips now? Possibly it’s simply easier or more efficient to access information in the way that we do now? It is definitely a conversation left for interpretation of our own experiences however, to the point of diligent work and peer encouragement, New Years is a time I’ve discovered that reflection and vision-casting is at its highest. No amount of information online can depict our own experiences like we can. We’re the very ones experiencing it. There’s comfort in community. Moments at the top of the year where transparency and most is most present, it creates atmospheres that attract people to each other like magnets.

My opinion–People nowadays crave genuine experiences, they long for moments to breathe without pressure and most of all, they seek time to just be human and be themselves. Since the rise of technology and social media, unrealistic expectations of how life should be lived are constantly placed in our faces and perceptions of the “American Dream” are drilled into our heads. So much so that when we are reminded of how times “used to be” we flock to those areas in hopes of experiencing feelings like those times that we remember.

What makes New Years different, in my opinion, is that most of us, reflect and recognize the past, normally within the past year, and take the best and worst of those experiences then apply them to our visions for the future. The act of recognizing our personal experiences and unapologetically using them to envision our future is what makes us all human at the end of the day. Sharing those things with others is what creates communities…communities of hope, support and encouragement among our peers.

New Years is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of this. Casting vision is the first step to creating a reality. And sharing with others is what keeps you on track from deviating from that reality.

In closing, the year 2024 is what’s called a leap year. So instead of 365 days, we will have 366. With an extra day to realize the things that we hope for, my question to you is how will you use these days to achieve YOUR vision through the eyes of day one?

Much love and Happy New Year!
