Falling Forward: An Evolved Routine
Scripture of The Month:
“For Everything There is A Season and A Time For Every Matter Under Heaven.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1
As we enter the month of September, many of us are now returning to classes, work or most specifically our routines. Tasks, habits and/or duties could all be synonyms for routines however, the key aspect of a routine is its consistency.
As a student and young adult, I’ve grown to understand the somewhat annoying difficulties stemming from the transition between a relaxing season to a task-oriented one. To me, it always seems like starting from square one again. However, to overcome the awkward transition back into a working season, it’s important to first identify why the moment is difficult. Although there can be many answers to this, one answer that life has taught me is: just as the weather has seasons, so does our routines. In my years of college, when beginning a new semester after a long break, I would try to implement the same routines that worked for me in previous seasons and discover it’s ineffectiveness.
Although those habits and routines might have worked for me back then, in the present day, those things might not work for me now. That is because we are constantly evolving and constantly changing. What might work for you now, might not always work for you in the future and in the same way, what didn’t work for you then, might just work for you now. The key in all these things is our ability to quickly identify the status of our work ethic, purpose and goals and identify meaningful habits (that later grow into routines) to help achieve our objectives.
September is the conclusion of the Summer season and commencement of the Fall season. The season of Fall is a personal favorite of mine because it’s the season of change. Visually, we see the changing of weather patterns, dying of leaves and the cooler outdoor temperatures. Just as nature changes, so do we.
So, as we return into our current working environments, it’s important to recognize that in midst of the changes happening externally, that there’s also been changes happening internally as well. As humans, we constantly are evolving and as we continue to grow, so does our mind. So, my encouragement to our family is to welcome change and be willing to work diligently towards the direction that life is naturally leading you towards. Recognize the potential that’s been placed in front of you and become flexible enough to change direction and try something new to achieve your goal. The best way to overcome challenges that your previous methods won’t work on is to change your approach.
Although parts of your old self might fall, let the new parts of yourself allow you to fall forward.
