ATTENTION

ATTENTION…What does that word mean to you? Furthermore, what does the spelling of the word indicate? If you’re like me, I begin to think along the lines of an important message, high priority or elevated emphasis on a particular thing. As you’ve seen, the title of this month’s Journey Entry is “ATTENTION”.

Throughout the course of March, I’ve found myself in many situations where I was either surprised by something, annoyed by an alarm or reminded of something that I long forgot about. Just yesterday, on my way to church, I was startled by the sound of my fire alarm from..you won’t believe it..the steam of my iron lol! At that moment and among many others that I could list off so much of, it truly reminded me that something was in fact seeking my attention. That, something, I believe is to be God who is seeking all of our attention.

Another moment in time was the constant sounding of my morning alarm, that went off more times that I anticipated one day. I remember being annoyed but too tired to act upon the sound of my alarm until I became so fed up that I jumped out of bed to silence all alarms. Only thing was, that now at that point, I was wide awake.

In reflection of all of these experiences, I began to ask God for the purpose of these things. It didn’t take long for me to understand that it was to gather my attention. For example, the fire siren startled me but I still understood that it was an indication of potential danger. My alarm clock can be quite annoying but it’s a reminder that God has woken me up.

In all these things that we might perceive as negative, God might really be using for our growth.

As we enter into the spring season, heed the reminders that God has intentionally set out for us. Many times God speaks, but in order for us to understand Him, we first must give him our attention.

In a world catered towards distraction, it’s important for us as believers to elevate our intentionality and most importantly our attention. If that requires the alarms of accountability, prayer and diligence, so be it, if it be for the Glory of God who wants us to reach the maximum of our potential.

ATTENTION — Give it to God.
